The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vows to prioritize women’s safety in West Bengal if it wins the upcoming assembly polls. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, at a campaign rally, highlighted the need for ensuring women can move freely and securely, even late at night. Shah criticized the current regime for failing to address rising crimes against women, citing specific cases like the R.G. Kar rape and murder incident.
The BJP also aims to tackle ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘multiple marriages’ in the state by implementing the Uniform Civil Code if it comes to power. Shah emphasized the need for fairness in marriage laws, stating that the UCC would put an end to practices allowing multiple marriages simultaneously. Additionally, he assured that under a BJP government, there would be no tolerance for corrupt practices, with those involved facing legal consequences.
Shah condemned the Trinamool Congress for its alleged support of antisocial elements responsible for the deaths of over 300 BJP workers in the past 15 years. He promised that once the BJP assumes power, the perpetrators would be identified and prosecuted. The Home Minister also addressed an incident involving President Droupadi Murmu, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of disrespecting tribal communities during the President’s visit to West Bengal.
