A protest led by Karnataka’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kalaburagi opposed the state government’s move to withdraw cases related to the Aland Ladle Mashak Dargah riot incident. The BJP demanded the reopening of these cases, warning of statewide protests if the decision is not reversed. Senior BJP leaders and elected representatives participated in the protest, criticizing the government’s actions.
The protest reflects ongoing political tensions over the government’s decision to withdraw certain criminal cases, with opposition parties accusing the Congress government of compromising law enforcement for electoral gains. Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra emphasized the need for strict action against those responsible for the violence and urged the government to re-register the cases against the perpetrators. He criticized the government for allegedly favoring anti-social elements over public interest.
Vijayendra condemned the government’s withdrawal of criminal cases related to the desecration of the Raghava Chaitanya Sri Shivalinga Temple, labeling it as a misguided attempt at vote-bank appeasement. He accused the Congress government of adopting double standards by protecting individuals involved in communal violence while claiming to promote communal harmony. The BJP leader vowed to intensify protests against what he termed as the government’s divisive and anti-majority community policies.
The protest highlighted concerns over the government’s handling of religious institutions and communal tensions, particularly regarding the Ladle Mashak Dargah dispute. The site, associated with both Muslim and Hindu saints, witnessed violence during a religious event, leading to clashes and injuries. The decision to withdraw cases against the accused has sparked controversy, with the BJP and other critics accusing the government of neglecting law and order in favor of political interests.
