In a significant move benefiting the BJP in the MCD, the Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP) merged with the ruling party, adding 16 Municipal Councillors. This merger, led by Mukesh Goyal, bolstered the BJP’s strength in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to 139 out of 250 councillors. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP chief Harsh Malhotra were present during the formal merger.
Welcoming the 16 councillors into the BJP, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that they would be respected and given opportunities to serve within the party. She assured residents of their wards that they would now benefit from Delhi’s development initiatives. Delhi BJP chief Malhotra highlighted that the merger aimed to connect people with the development efforts of the government.
The IVP, formed in 2025 by 16 Municipal Councillors who left the Aam Aadmi Party, expressed a desire to align with the BJP for broader development goals. The merger was officially requested by IVP leader Goyal and approved by the BJP’s top leadership. This move is expected to enhance the BJP’s engagement with residents across 16 municipal wards and leverage the experience of the new councillors for effective governance.
Delhi BJP leaders, including Mayor Pravesh Wahi and General Secretary Vishnu Mittal, were present at the press conference announcing the merger. The joining councillors, under Goyal’s leadership, bring valuable experience that will benefit the Municipal Corporation’s operations. The merger signifies a direct link between residents and the BJP government’s development agenda, reinforcing the commitment to inclusive growth and governance.
