BJP, Union Government Accused of Making People Stand in Queues: Trinamool Congress

Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee criticized the BJP and Union government for repeatedly subjecting people to standing in queues, citing instances like demonetization and the current Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in West Bengal. Banerjee highlighted that after demonetization, black money actually increased, and now, under the SIR initiative, people are again forced to queue up, accusing the government of selecting voters instead of being elected by the people.

Addressing a public rally in Alipurduar, Banerjee expressed concerns over the freezing of funds for West Bengal under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) by the Union government. He emphasized the contrasting approach of the Trinamool Congress, which continues development works in areas even if their candidates are defeated, unlike the BJP, which allegedly withholds funds as a form of retribution.

Banerjee also criticized BJP representatives for their alleged indifference during natural calamities in north Bengal, contrasting it with the Trinamool Congress’s proactive response. He accused the BJP of being opportunistic, likening the party to a snake that turns hostile despite being nurtured, especially as elections draw near.
