The BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit has issued a Rs 100 crore defamation notice to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. This action comes in response to Abdullah’s allegations that the BJP offered Rs 20-30 crore to MLAs to topple his government. The notice demands an unconditional public apology and withdrawal of Abdullah’s remarks within seven days.
Omar Abdullah claimed during a party convention that a senior BJP leader approached one of his MLAs with offers of money and ministerial positions. The notice, served by Advocate Parimoksh Seth on behalf of J&K BJP president Sat Paul Sharma, warns of civil and criminal proceedings if the demands are not met. The BJP has vehemently denied the allegations, labeling them as false and defamatory.
The BJP has demanded that Abdullah retract the statements, issue a public apology, and refrain from making similar claims in the future. Failure to comply within the stipulated time could lead to legal action, including a Rs 100 crore civil defamation suit. The party maintains that the notice is issued without prejudice to any other legal remedies available to them.
