Soon after Suvendu Adhikari of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) became West Bengal’s first Chief Minister, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar expressed confidence in the state’s transformation under a “double-engine” government. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence, Adhikari’s leadership aims to lead Bengal towards development. The new Chief Minister visited Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral home after taking oath and emphasized following Tagore’s ideology.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighted the importance of a BJP government in West Bengal, focusing on curbing illegal infiltration and promoting development. Adhikari, in his address, stressed the significance of starting the government’s tenure on Rabindra Jayanti, as per Prime Minister Modi’s wish. He emphasized upholding the Constitution with Tagore’s blessings and pledged to uphold Bengal’s culture and values.
Adhikari, referencing the BJP’s foundation on Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s principles, dismissed criticisms of the party as ‘outsiders’. He criticized the Trinamool Congress, urging them to gain wisdom instead of engaging in constant criticism. Adhikari acknowledged the challenges faced by Bengal under the previous government, vowing to reform education, culture, and overall governance in the state. He expressed determination to overcome obstacles and lead Bengal towards progress.
