A high-level meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s top leadership, including Union Ministers and party president Nitin Nabin, is scheduled to take place at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence this evening. The meeting, set for 5.30 PM, will focus on various issues such as Rajya Sabha polls and upcoming elections to several Legislative Councils.
The primary agenda of the meeting is to discuss and finalize the names of candidates for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections. Senior Union ministers like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, party president Nitin Nabin, and other top officials will gather at PM Modi’s residence to deliberate on potential party nominees and consider re-fielding retiring members in the Upper House.
The BJP’s top leadership will also strategize on gaining an advantage over the Opposition in the crucial Rajya Sabha polls, especially following the recent setback of the Women’s reservation bill. Elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states are scheduled for June 18, with vacancies arising due to the retirement of current lawmakers from the Upper House.
June 8 marks the deadline for filing nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections in various states, including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Jharkhand, and some states in the North-East like Meghalaya and Mizoram. Additionally, discussions will encompass possible nominations for Legislative Council elections in Karnataka, Bihar, and Maharashtra.
The meeting will also address strengthening the party organization, mobilizing grassroots workers and supporters, and highlighting the achievements of the Modi government over the past twelve years. With the BJP president announcing new party chiefs in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Tripura, the focus will be on preparing for upcoming elections, notably in Uttar Pradesh and the anticipated 2029 elections.
