After a 17-hour rescue operation, the body of the second MBBS student who drowned in Gwalior’s Tigra Dam was recovered on Sunday.
Two second-year MBBS students from Gajara Raja Medical College drowned in Tigra Dam while on a picnic with friends. The students, Ayush Srivastava from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and Gopal Agarwal from Bina, Madhya Pradesh, drowned in a restricted area of the dam.
The tragic incident unfolded when Ayush and Gopal slipped on rocks and fell into a section of the dam estimated to be 40-50 feet deep. Despite efforts by their companions, the students could not be rescued in time.
A group of eight medical students had gone for a picnic at the dam, with Ayush and Gopal venturing into the water. The rescue operation involved the Tigra police, State Disaster Response Force, and local divers, facing challenges due to the dam’s depth and rocky terrain.
Gopal Agarwal’s body was recovered late on Saturday night, while the search for Ayush Srivastava continued for around 17 hours before his body was found on Sunday afternoon. Both students had entered a restricted area of the dam, leading to the tragic incident.
