The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has allocated a record Rs 16,690 crore in FY 2024-25 for the construction and maintenance of crucial roads, bridges, tunnels, and airfields across India. This allocation marks the highest-ever outlay for the BRO and is set to increase further, with a target of Rs 17,900 crore for FY 2025-26. The BRO, responsible for infrastructure in border and remote areas to serve both military and civilian purposes, oversees 18 active field projects.

These projects are strategically spread across various regions, with nine in North West India and eight in North East and Eastern India. Additionally, one project is located in Bhutan. The BRO’s initiatives encompass the development of extensive infrastructure, including roads, bridges, tunnels, and airfields, along with tele-medicine nodes. These efforts aim to bolster national security and socio-economic progress, aligning with programs like Act East and the Vibrant Villages Programme.

In challenging terrains like Arunachal Pradesh, the BRO undertakes projects such as Vartak, Arunank, Udayak, and Brahmank to link remote villages to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) through critical infrastructure like bridges and tunnels. In Ladakh, projects like Himank, Beacon, Deepak, Vijayak, and Yojak play a crucial role in maintaining connectivity to strategic locations such as Kargil, Leh, and the Karakoram region.

The Northeast region witnesses projects like Swastik in Sikkim, Pushpak in Mizoram, Setuk in Assam and Meghalaya, and Sewak in Nagaland and Manipur, which enhance regional accessibility. Projects like Sampark in Jammu and Chetak in Rajasthan contribute to strategic mobility along the western borders. Furthermore, initiatives like Shivalik in Uttarakhand and Hirak in Chhattisgarh extend connectivity to key areas, including the Char Dham Yatra and Left-Wing Extremism-affected regions.

BRO’s overseas arm in Bhutan, known as Dantak, plays a vital role in strengthening bilateral relations through extensive road, bridge, and infrastructure development. These collective efforts underscore BRO’s steadfast dedication to national security, strategic readiness, and regional progress.
