Despite ongoing efforts to combat corruption in Bihar, instances of government officials engaging in bribery persist. Recently, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau apprehended a revenue officer in Gopalganj district’s Barauli Circle for accepting a bribe, causing a stir in administrative circles. The accused, identified as Vijay Singh, was caught red-handed accepting Rs 6,000 in connection with a land mutation case.
Official sources revealed that the bribe was related to a pending mutation case concerning 9.9 decimal of land owned by Shailendra Kumar from Baghaichi village. Allegedly, the revenue officer had initially demanded Rs 10,000 to process the mutation file, which was later negotiated down to Rs 6,000. The complainant, unable to pay the bribe, reported the matter to the Vigilance Police Station.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau conducted a preliminary verification that substantiated the illegal gratification demand. Subsequently, a trap team was formed, leading to the arrest of Revenue Officer Vijay Singh while accepting the bribe money. Deputy Superintendent of Police Nagendra Kumar confirmed the arrest and stated that further legal action is in progress.
Following his arrest, the accused officer was taken into custody for interrogation and is being presented at the Vigilance Police Station for further legal procedures. The Vigilance Department emphasized its unwavering commitment to combat corruption and uphold the law, emphasizing that no government employee is exempt from accountability. This incident has served as a stern warning to the district administration.
