BRICS member nations denounced the April 2025 Pahalgam attack and other terrorist incidents, expressing their commitment to bolstering cooperation in counterterrorism, as per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The 11th Annual BRICS Counter Terrorism Working Group (CTWG) Plenary and Sub Groups’ Meetings took place in New Delhi on May 21-22 under India’s Chairmanship, the MEA disclosed. This event marked a decade since the establishment of the BRICS CTWG.
Ambassador Sibi George, MEA Secretary (West), stressed the significance of united efforts by BRICS countries in combating global terrorism. He urged collective action to enhance the effectiveness of the BRICS CTWG, emphasizing resilience, innovation, and inclusivity. Ambassador George expressed gratitude to BRICS members for their support post the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
Highlighting the necessity for a collaborative approach in counterterrorism, Ambassador George addressed challenges such as evolving terror financing methods and radicalization. He underscored India’s unwavering stance against terrorism and the imperative of joint efforts to combat diverse forms of terrorism. India remains dedicated to strengthening cooperation with BRICS nations for a secure world free from terrorism.
During the meetings, participants deliberated on a wide range of counterterrorism strategies to tackle current and emerging threats. Vinod Bahade, MEA Joint Secretary (Counter Terrorism), led the discussions, with the involvement of senior officials from all 10 BRICS member countries. The BRICS CTWG Plenary meeting was preceded by sessions of the thematic Sub Groups, as outlined by the MEA.
