The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has sanctioned two railway projects in Odisha and Jharkhand, valued at Rs 3,907 crore. These projects will extend the Indian Railways network by approximately 145 kilometers, enhancing operational efficiency and service reliability. The increased line capacity is expected to benefit around 1,526 villages with a total population of nearly 14 lakh.
The proposed projects aim to boost connectivity to various tourist destinations and essential transportation routes for commodities like coal, iron ore, dolomite, limestone, and gypsum. This capacity enhancement is projected to facilitate an additional freight traffic volume of about 44 million tonnes per annum. The Railways, known for its eco-friendly and energy-efficient transportation, is anticipated to aid in achieving climate objectives and reducing logistics costs.
These railway projects are designed to streamline operations, reduce congestion, and align with the vision of a New India, fostering self-reliance and comprehensive development in the region. Planned under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, these initiatives will prioritize multi-modal connectivity and logistic efficiency through integrated planning and stakeholder consultations. They are expected to provide seamless connectivity for the movement of people, goods, and services.
