Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanathan praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PRAGATI system for expediting the implementation of major projects and key welfare programs. The structured Project and Issue Escalation Mechanism within PRAGATI ensures efficient monitoring and resolution of issues at various levels and with state governments. Somanathan emphasized that complex issues are escalated through defined mechanisms for higher-level review, ultimately reaching PRAGATI meetings chaired by PM Modi.
The escalation framework facilitates coordinated inter-ministerial action, timely decision-making, and targeted resolution of implementation hurdles in nationally significant projects. PRAGATI remains a vital platform for ensuring accountability and hastening project execution through meticulous monitoring and review at the highest echelons. Over the past decade, PRAGATI has accelerated projects worth over Rs 85 lakh crore and addressed longstanding issues through close collaboration between the Centre and states.
During the 50th PRAGATI meeting, PM Modi highlighted the transformation in India’s governance culture, emphasizing timely decision-making, accountability, and enhanced coordination between departments and states. The meeting showcased the impact of technology-driven monitoring and regular follow-ups on governance practices in India. PM Modi reviewed five major infrastructure projects spanning roads, railways, power, water resources, and coal across five states with a total investment exceeding Rs 40,000 crore. He stressed the importance of ensuring prompt execution and eliminating bottlenecks through continuous oversight.
