In response to delayed elections by the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), the Supreme Court has upheld the Rajasthan High Court’s order, mandating time-bound polls overseen by an administrator. The Court criticized the prolonged delay in conducting elections and questioned the continued existence of the ad-hoc committee, originally intended as a temporary measure.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition from members of the ad-hoc committee as “absurd,” raising concerns about the perpetual avoidance of elections. Consequently, the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the committee members was withdrawn, allowing the RCA election process to proceed under Administrator Bhaskar A. Sawant’s supervision.
A bench comprising Justice K.V. Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe presided over the matter, where the Court highlighted that the ad-hoc committee’s role was temporary and questioned the prolonged delay in conducting elections. The state government also emphasized that the committee lacked the authority to file a petition on behalf of the Rajasthan Cricket Association.
The Supreme Court’s decision upholds the Rajasthan High Court’s directive from July 1, ensuring that Administrator Bhaskar A. Sawant will oversee the election process, including tasks such as finalizing the voter list, appointing a returning officer, setting the election schedule, and conducting the polls. The election schedule must be submitted to the High Court by July 29, 2026, as per the court order.
