The police in Mumbai have filed a case against Rajesh Kumar, a 21-year-old caretaker at Swagat Ashram in Kandivali West, for allegedly physically assaulting two minors. The incident occurred when the accused, in a fit of rage due to the children waking up late, grabbed an 11-year-old boy by the throat and slapped him.
The two children, who had been staying at the ashram after their father’s demise, escaped and were later rescued by the Dadar Railway Police. The victims revealed that they had been enduring abuse and beatings at the shelter home.
According to the complaint, the caretaker threw a bottle at one of the boys and proceeded to physically assault the 11-year-old. Fearing further harm, the boys fled the ashram, seeking refuge with the help of a kind citizen at Dadar railway station.
After the children were found wandering at the station, they were taken into custody by the police, who then contacted their mother and the authorities at Swagat Ashram. Both minors were moved to a secure children’s home following medical examinations. An investigation is ongoing into the alleged assault and the shelter home’s operations.
