The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended two main suspects linked to the killing of Chandranath Rath, an assistant to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. This development is seen as a significant breakthrough in the case. The arrested individuals, Vikas Mishra and Golu Singh, were captured during coordinated search operations in Uttar Pradesh.
Mishra was taken into custody from a hotel in Lucknow, while Singh was arrested in Ballia district. Both suspects are believed to have played crucial roles in planning and carrying out the murder. In a related update, another accused, Gyanendra Pratap Singh alias Monu, surrendered before a Gangsters Act court in Ballia and has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
Monu, a history-sheeter with a criminal record of at least 12 cases, is also wanted in connection with Rath’s killing. Chandranath Rath, who served as the executive assistant to Suvendu Adhikari, was fatally shot on May 6 in Madhyamgram, on the outskirts of Kolkata, just two days after the West Bengal Assembly election results were announced. The incident sparked widespread political reactions, highlighting concerns over the state’s law and order situation.
Following the incident, the CBI took over the investigation and has been actively pursuing leads to identify the perpetrators. With the recent arrests and surrender of another suspect, investigators are expected to escalate efforts to unravel the complete conspiracy behind the murder.
