The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a medical officer from the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) and a private hospital executive in Uttar Pradesh. Major Dr. Ashish Shakya (retd), stationed at the ECHS Polyclinic in Etah, and Bijendra Singh, an Assistant General Manager at a private hospital, are the arrested individuals. The CBI initiated the case against five suspects, including the ECHS medical officer, a private hospital/company, and three hospital representatives, along with others.
Allegedly, the medical officer collaborated with the private hospital representatives to offer undue advantages to the empanelled facility by recommending patients in exchange for illicit payments. The investigation revealed that the accused public servant received bribes from the hospital management for directing ECHS scheme beneficiaries to that specific hospital for medical care. In a CBI sting operation, a bribe amount of Rs 3 lakh, handed over by a hospital representative to the medical officer, was seized.
Both suspects were taken into custody following their arrest. The CBI conducted searches at various locations, including Noida, Etah, Firozabad, and Farrukhabad, unearthing incriminating documents and digital devices associated with the alleged corruption network. The agency is continuing its probe to uncover the full scope of the conspiracy and the potential involvement of other individuals.
