The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Vijay, the founder and president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), to appear in New Delhi on January 12 in connection with the Karur stampede case. The tragic incident occurred during a political rally organized by TVK, resulting in 41 fatalities. Following public outcry, the investigation was transferred to the CBI from the state police.
Vijay, who recently entered politics, addressed the rally that attracted a large number of supporters, leading to chaos and a stampede due to the overwhelming crowd. The CBI has been examining crowd management, rally permissions, and the roles of organizers and party members. Senior TVK officials have already been questioned by the CBI in this regard.
Nirmal Kumar, a party executive, mentioned providing video evidence related to the stampede to aid the investigation. Amid speculation, it has been confirmed that Vijay will also be questioned by the CBI regarding the rally’s conduct and crowd management. The summons coincide with the upcoming release of Vijay’s film on January 9.
Vijay, who transitioned from cinema to politics in 2024, founded TVK projecting it as a new political force in Tamil Nadu. The CBI’s investigation into the stampede continues, focusing on determining responsibility for lapses in crowd control and event management through various forms of evidence.
