Celebrity chef and filmmaker Vikas Khanna shared how a visit to Vrindavan during Holi in 2011 inspired his film, “The Last Color.” While witnessing the colorful festivities, he noticed the widows of Vrindavan dressed in white, devoid of any colors. This poignant sight moved him to write a short story that eventually evolved into a novel and later into a full-fledged film.
In his own words, Vikas expressed his emotional journey, stating that the stark contrast between the widows’ white attire and the vibrant colors around them deeply affected him. The film’s impact exceeded his expectations, with screenings at prestigious events like the Cannes Film Festival and a special show at the United Nations Headquarters, receiving widespread acclaim.
Reflecting on the film’s success, Vikas highlighted the importance of inclusion and belonging, emphasizing the need to ensure that everyone can partake in celebrations and joy. He shared his belief in creating spaces like his restaurant Bungalow, where every individual is welcomed and valued, emphasizing the essence of inclusion and diversity.
