Premier League club Chelsea faced a setback as their women’s team captain, Millie Bright, unexpectedly retired. Bright, the longest-serving player at Chelsea, played a pivotal role in the team’s successes over the years, starting from their first trophy win in 2015.
Having represented Chelsea for 12 years, Bright expressed her deep connection to the club but stated her readiness to move on from playing football. She will remain involved with Chelsea as a trustee of the foundation and take on a new role as a club ambassador.
Millie Bright, who joined Chelsea in 2015, holds the record for the most Women’s Super League matches played and the highest number of appearances for the club. She contributed significantly to Chelsea’s victories, securing multiple WSL titles, Women’s FA Cup trophies, and Women’s League Cups during her tenure.
On the international stage, Bright made her debut for England in 2016 and went on to earn 88 caps, showcasing her talent and leadership. Her achievements include captaining England in the World Cup final and receiving an OBE for her contributions to the sport in 2024.
