The Chennai city police have designated extensive areas around Marina Beach as a high-security Red Zone for the 77th Republic Day celebrations. This includes a ban on Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), drones, and other aerial objects on Sunday and Monday. The Red Zone restrictions cover ceremonial routes and areas where key events will take place.
A five-tier security arrangement will be enforced along Kamarajar Road and its surroundings to ensure the smooth conduct of the celebrations. Around 7,500 police officers and personnel have been deployed across the city for special security duties. Security measures have been heightened at various locations including the Chennai International Airport, major railway stations, bus terminals, business hubs, beach areas, and places of worship.
To prevent any untoward incidents during the national event, police have intensified citywide patrolling and set up special check posts at major entry points to Chennai. Anti-sabotage checks are being conducted at vital installations and public transport hubs by specialized teams. The security measures aim to provide a peaceful and incident-free Republic Day celebration for the public.
