Chennai is set to have increased security measures on New Year’s Eve, with over 25,000 police officers deployed in the city and its outskirts to ensure a safe celebration. The security plan, led by the Greater Chennai Police, Tambaram City Police, and Avadi City Police, will utilize drones, CCTV surveillance, and special monitoring teams.
Around 19,000 police personnel will be stationed within the Greater Chennai Police limits, while 3,000 officers each will be present in the Tambaram and Avadi police areas. Additionally, 1,500 Home Guards will aid in crowd control, traffic management, and emergency responses.
Authorities have issued a stern advisory urging the public to cooperate with security forces and strictly follow safety guidelines. Special attention is being given to preventing drunk driving, reckless behavior, and disorderly conduct during the festivities.
To enhance safety, beaches in Chennai and its surroundings, such as Marina, Santhome, Elliots, Neelangarai, Panaiyur, and Kovalam, will be closed to the public from Wednesday evening until January 1, 2026.
