Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar led a review meeting in Dehradun to discuss the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttarakhand. The main focus of the SIR is to enhance the accuracy of the voter list by identifying various categories of voters. Voters are urged to provide updated photos for the SIR and cooperate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
Uttarakhand is one of the 16 states where the third phase of the SIR of electoral rolls will take place soon. The draft electoral rolls in Uttarakhand will be released on July 14, with the final roll expected by September 9, as per the Election Commission of India’s schedule. Chief Electoral Officer B.V.R.C. Purushottam reported that 89% of the mapping has been completed in the pre-SIR phase.
Preparations for printing the counting forms in the state have been finalized, and training sessions for field staff are ongoing. A voter awareness campaign is in progress to inform the public about the special intensive revision. Additionally, DEOs and EROs have been advised to conduct weekly meetings with political parties.
The meeting attendees included Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Additional Director General V. Murugesan, and other officials. This visit marked the second day of the CEC’s inspection in Uttarakhand for SIR preparations. Previously, CEC Gyanesh Kumar visited Uttarkashi to assess polling booths and SIR activities in the border district, emphasizing the importance of accurate electoral rolls.
