Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan publicly apologized to Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty following a controversy surrounding the actor’s interaction with CPI-M leaders during a visit to the Wayanad township project. Vijayan acknowledged that Mammootty’s actions were well-intentioned and expressed regret over the subsequent cyber attacks on social media.
The controversy stemmed from Mammootty’s unpublicized visit to the Wayanad township project, where he privately spoke to CPI-M Wayanad district secretary K. Rafeek. The actor, concerned about potential misinterpretation, chose to convey his thoughts discreetly to avoid unnecessary controversy.
Vijayan clarified that Mammootty’s visit was unplanned and driven by genuine concern. The Chief Minister emphasized that the actor’s private conversation with the district secretary was intended positively but unfortunately became a topic of public debate, leading to online backlash against Mammootty.
Defending Mammootty’s goodwill and contribution to Kerala’s development, Vijayan condemned the online attacks on the respected actor. He highlighted the need to appreciate Mammootty’s positive stance on the state’s infrastructure projects and stressed the importance of respecting his stature in the industry.
