Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan strongly denounced the recent attacks on Christmas festivities nationwide, emphasizing zero tolerance for any actions undermining constitutional freedoms and Kerala’s diverse culture. Vijayan expressed deep concern over the violence and intimidation targeting Christmas events in various states, attributing these incidents to Sangh Parivar organizations.
He criticized the cancellation of Christmas holidays in Uttar Pradesh and the directive to observe Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth anniversary instead, labeling it as a troubling development. Vijayan highlighted instances in Kerala where Christmas celebrations were disrupted, including the cancellation of events in post offices and an attack on a carol group in Palakkad district.
The Chief Minister vowed to investigate such incidents promptly and take strict action against those impeding celebrations or engaging in religious discrimination. He underscored Kerala’s commitment to upholding secularism and coexistence, resisting any efforts to erode these fundamental values.
