Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured that the alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena for the upcoming municipal corporation elections is progressing smoothly. Fadnavis highlighted that discussions on seat-sharing are positive, with no obstacles foreseen.
Fadnavis mentioned that the seat-sharing talks are being led by BJP State President Ravindra Chavan, with support from Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, senior leader Ashish Shelar, and local leaders from each municipal corporation area. He expressed confidence in a successful alliance formation, emphasizing the constructive nature of the ongoing negotiations.
The Chief Minister’s statement comes amidst preparations for the 2026 local body elections in Maharashtra. Fadnavis aimed to reinforce unity within the ruling alliance, particularly addressing concerns about potential disagreements over urban constituencies. He also disclosed plans for the BMC polls, including a significant representation of young candidates from the BJP to counter certain political narratives.
Fadnavis disclosed that efforts are underway to maintain cooperation within the alliance, particularly concerning the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). He highlighted the involvement of a joint coordination committee and assured personal intervention if any issues arise, underscoring the commitment to resolving differences amicably.
