The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election campaign intensified as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, at a MahaYuti rally in Shivaji Park, responded strongly to the Thackeray brothers. Fadnavis displayed past video clips of Raj and Uddhav Thackeray’s accusations against each other, questioning the need for further responses. He criticized their alliance as a power-seeking move rather than genuine unity.
Fadnavis firmly asserted that Mumbai will always remain an integral part of Maharashtra, dismissing any attempts to separate the city from the state. He refuted claims of neglecting the Marathi language by presenting evidence of the government’s commitment to Marathi in educational policies.
In a direct attack on Shiv Sena’s 25-year BMC rule, Fadnavis challenged the Thackeray brothers’ claims of protecting Marathi interests, accusing them of prioritizing politics over community welfare. He rejected the proposal for a high-profile debate, offering his candidate Sheetal Gambhir to engage instead.
Fadnavis addressed personal attacks by the Thackeray camp, highlighting their property expansions while advocating for Mumbai’s airport development. He announced plans for multiple airports in Mumbai and emphasized the city’s need for enhanced aviation infrastructure.
Closing the rally on National Youth Day, Fadnavis drew inspiration from Swami Vivekananda’s teachings, emphasizing Mumbai’s inseparable bond with Maharashtra. He pledged that the next Mayor of Mumbai, under the MahaYuti alliance, would be a Marathi individual.
