Escalating efforts against drug trafficking, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has reached out to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry for a joint regional crackdown on interstate drug networks. Under Kerala’s ‘Operation Toofan’, the focus is on intelligence-led policing, targeting traffickers’ financial networks, and seizing illicit assets.
Satheesan highlighted the need for enhanced cooperation as drug syndicates now operate seamlessly across state borders, necessitating a united front. Vulnerable points like border regions, highways, tourist spots, and urban centers have become hotspots for narcotics mafias in South India.
To combat organized drug trafficking effectively, real-time intelligence sharing, joint operations, and coordinated planning among neighboring states are crucial. A proposed high-level meeting aims to formulate a common action plan against interstate drug smuggling, focusing on intelligence exchange and coordinated enforcement operations.
The new Kerala government’s initiative seeks to establish a regional coalition against drug trafficking, recognizing it as a significant law-and-order challenge. With drug networks expanding beyond state boundaries, a united effort among southern states is deemed essential to tackle this growing menace.
