Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasized the need to envision Kerala as a ‘Global Kerala’ during his address at the Loka Kerala Sabha. He highlighted the significant contributions of Keralites living abroad in shaping the state’s society, culture, and progress. Vijayan urged unity among all Keralites, both within the state and overseas, to propel Kerala forward collectively.
The Chief Minister praised the Loka Kerala Sabha as a crucial democratic platform for expatriate Keralites to voice their aspirations for Kerala’s future. Despite facing initial criticism, the Sabha has gained public acceptance for its effective functioning and has even been recognized by the Union government as a model worth emulating.
Vijayan drew attention to the substantial diaspora populations of India and China, emphasizing the potential for national growth through meaningful engagement with expatriates. He called for practical measures to integrate the diaspora, citing China’s successful utilization of its overseas professionals to drive economic and technological advancements.
Proposals from the Loka Kerala Sabha, aimed at transforming Kerala into a knowledge society, were highlighted by the Chief Minister. He suggested incorporating diaspora-linked projects into Kerala’s Fifteenth Five-Year Plan starting from 2027–28. Vijayan also outlined various initiatives undertaken by the state to support expatriates, including economic reintegration programs, health insurance schemes, and measures to combat recruitment fraud.
Expressing concern over global uncertainties and intolerance towards migrant communities, particularly in Western nations, Vijayan stressed the government’s commitment to safeguarding and assisting the diaspora. He underscored the importance of expatriates maintaining strong ties with Kerala and being prepared for reintegration upon their return.
