Chief Minister Rekha Gupta oversaw the rescue and relief efforts following a four-storey building collapse near Saket metro station in south Delhi’s Saidulajab area. The incident has resulted in at least two fatalities. Prompt action, including the registration of a criminal case at Mehrauli Police Station, was taken under her directives. A magisterial inquiry led by the District Magistrate, South District, has been initiated.
Rescue operations have been ongoing since last night, with officials instructed to inspect nearby dilapidated structures for necessary actions. Chief Minister Gupta emphasized strict measures against unauthorized constructions and accountable officials. Approximately 30 individuals were involved in the collapse, with nine rescued, two deceased, and others still trapped. Search and rescue operations involving NDRF, Delhi Police, and civil defense units are in progress.
The collapsed building, comprising a ground floor and three under-construction levels, fell onto a tin shed canteen where children were present. Eyewitnesses reported the incident occurring around 6 p.m. on Saturday, causing shock in the vicinity. The exact cause of the collapse is yet to be determined.
