Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, has expressed gratitude for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s condolences following the tragic mining accident in Shanxi Province. The Ambassador highlighted the significance of India’s sympathy and support during this challenging period. The incident, a coal mine gas explosion at the Liushenyu coal mine in Qinyuan County, has claimed 82 lives with two individuals still missing.
A total of 128 individuals are currently undergoing medical treatment, with two in critical condition and two in serious condition. Ambassador Feihong, in a statement, acknowledged PM Modi’s compassionate gesture and emphasized the joint efforts in rescue and relief operations. Prime Minister Modi also extended his condolences to Chinese President Xi Jinping over the unfortunate incident.
Authorities have reported that toxic gases in the mine shaft exceeded safe levels, raising concerns about potential secondary disasters. The company responsible for the explosion has been found to have violated laws, prompting a safety overhaul and cessation of coal mine production. Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for comprehensive rescue efforts, treatment of the injured, and a thorough investigation with legal accountability.
