A Chinese national, Zhou Huan, was apprehended close to the Jogbani Integrated Check Post in Araria for trying to enter India without proper travel documents, sparking concerns about border security. Zhou Huan, hailing from Hunan province in China, was stopped near the ICP gate while riding a scooter with a Nepali registration number. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel, noticing his suspicious behavior, detained him for questioning.
Authorities discovered that Zhou Huan, admitting to his Chinese citizenship, lacked a valid visa or any travel papers. It is believed that he unlawfully crossed into India through Nepal. The 56th Battalion of the SSB, Bathnaha, promptly took him into custody following the interception at the ICP and subsequent joint interrogation by SSB officials and immigration authorities.
After initial questioning, Zhou Huan was transferred to the Jogbani Police Station for further legal procedures. A collaborative team involving SSB, intelligence agencies, and local police is actively investigating the case, considering its sensitivity from a national security perspective. Efforts are ongoing to uncover the reasons behind Zhou Huan’s entry and to determine if there is a broader network or conspiracy at play.
The Chinese High Commission in New Delhi has been notified of Zhou Huan’s arrest. Security personnel’s swift action at the border has garnered praise, leading to heightened surveillance and checks in the region. Officials have emphasized that foreign nationals without proper documentation will not be permitted entry into the country. Zhou Huan remains in police custody, with legal actions initiated under the Foreigners Act.
