Actor Chitrangda Singh, known for her role as an army wife in Battle Of Galwan, shares how the character provided her a profound understanding of the inner strength carried by women from military backgrounds. Growing up as the daughter of an Indian Army officer, she was accustomed to the military lifestyle but preparing for this role offered her a deeper emotional connection to that world.
Chitrangda expressed, “My father’s army experiences were familiar to me, but portraying an army wife was a unique experience. Interacting with army wives helped me comprehend my mother’s unspoken emotions, a mix of pride and concern.” These women exhibit a blend of strength and vulnerability daily, a complexity she aimed to portray in her role, capturing not just courage but also the resilience to stay strong amidst personal turmoil.
In Battle Of Galwan, depicted through the patriotic track ‘Maatrubhumi,’ Chitrangda embodies the essence of a soldier’s wife, symbolizing the silent support system behind uniformed men. With a modest appearance and minimal makeup, she represents the countless Indian women who silently stand by their partners in uniform, providing emotional support and stability.
The film, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, delves into the Galwan clash between India and China in 2020, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. The intense face-off in the Galwan Valley resulted in casualties on both sides, marking the deadliest India–China confrontation in decades. Scheduled for release on April 17, Battle Of Galwan aims to shed light on the sacrifices and resilience displayed by those involved in the conflict.
