The CIA reportedly carried out a drone strike on a dock facility in Venezuela, the first known land strike by the Trump administration in the country. The strike targeted a remote dock believed to be used by a Venezuelan gang for drug storage and transfer onto boats, as per CNN.
No casualties were reported as no one was present during the strike. US President Donald Trump mentioned that the strike targeted a dock area where drug traffickers loaded boats with drugs in Venezuela. This action marks a significant move by the Trump administration in the oil-rich South American nation.
Trump described a major explosion at the dock area where boats were loaded with drugs. He stated that all the boats were hit, along with the implementation area. The President did not disclose the specific entity responsible for the operation.
Venezuela’s government has not yet responded to the incident. Trump initially disclosed the strike in an interview, mentioning the destruction of a facility producing illicit drugs in Venezuela. The US has been increasing its military presence near Venezuela as part of an anti-narco-terrorism campaign.
For months, the US has been active in Caribbean waters near Venezuela, sinking alleged drug boats and causing over 100 deaths. Venezuela has accused the US of seeking regime change and military expansion in Latin America. President Maduro expressed readiness for dialogue with the US based on mutual respect, urging non-interference in Venezuela.
