The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel intercepted a foreign national at Mumbai airport, discovering illicit foreign currency worth Rs 1.39 crore in his baggage. The individual, bound for Addis Ababa, was apprehended and handed over to Customs officials for further investigation. This incident occurred during routine baggage screening, where vigilant officials noticed suspicious items in the X-ray image of the passenger’s belongings.
Notably, this is not an isolated case, as similar instances of foreign currency seizures have been reported at airports nationwide. Just a month ago, CISF personnel at Hyderabad airport apprehended another traveler carrying Rs 9.62 lakh in various foreign currencies. The individual, exhibiting suspicious behavior, was flagged by security officials and subsequently found with undeclared foreign currency in his baggage.
Such incidents highlight the ongoing efforts of security agencies to curb illegal transportation of foreign currency through airports. The CISF remains vigilant in detecting and seizing illicit funds, ensuring compliance with regulations and preventing financial malpractices.
