Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant highlighted the importance of social justice in creating a fair society while expressing worries about the bias of artificial intelligence towards the underprivileged. Speaking at the 8th Dinkar Memorial Lecture, CJI Surya Kant praised the values of equality and human dignity depicted in the works of poet Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’, emphasizing their relevance today.
“In a democracy, equality, dignity, and social harmony are crucial. Mere legislation is insufficient unless every individual is treated with respect,” stated the CJI, drawing insights from Dinkar’s epic Rashmirathi. He also raised concerns about the persistent social inequalities that Dinkar’s writings continue to shed light on even after many years.
The CJI underlined that social justice principles are vital for a just society and cautioned against the potential exclusion deepened by emerging technologies like AI if not aligned with constitutional values and human empathy. He stressed the significance of literature and Constitutional morality in upholding equality and social cohesion in society.
During the event, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari was honored with the Dinkar Sanskriti Samman 2026 for his efforts in promoting the poet’s legacy. Tiwari acknowledged the enduring influence of Dinkar’s poetry, describing it as a reflection of India’s rich cultural heritage. The lecture, attended by judiciary members, academics, and public figures, aimed to bridge literary wisdom with contemporary legal and societal discussions.
Supreme Court Bar Association President Vikas Singh commended Dinkar’s writings for embodying India’s justice principles deeply rooted in its civilization. He highlighted the platform’s role in connecting literary insights with present-day legal and societal dialogues. Respect India Founder Manish Kumar Chaudhary emphasized the lecture’s tribute to Dinkar’s lasting legacy and inspiring ideas, aiming to unite culture, thoughts, and social duties through the platform.
