In Guluru town of Karnataka’s Tumakuru, a Class 1 student named Chinmayi Devi lost portions of two fingers in a door mishap. The incident occurred while she was in a queue during the midday meal service, with her hand placed on the door’s edge. Allegations of negligence by the teachers have surfaced, prompting the state Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa to promise an investigation and potential legal action if anyone is found responsible.
Following the injury, the teachers reportedly only rinsed the student’s hand with water before sending her home. One finger was partially severed at the tip, while the other sustained more severe damage. The parents accused the Block Education Officer (BEO) of inaction, leading to a case of alleged negligence being filed against the BEO in Tumakuru.
In response, BEO Hanumantappa clarified that the teachers promptly took the student to a private hospital for treatment. He acknowledged the incident and assured that necessary actions were being taken, including serving notices to the headmaster and other relevant individuals. Bangarappa, addressing the issue in Bengaluru, emphasized the importance of ensuring student safety and vowed to hold accountable those responsible for any lapses in ensuring a secure school environment.
