A village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district was struck by a cloudburst, leading to the closure of schools in Kishtwar district due to severe weather conditions. The cloudburst in the hilly Bathoi area of Reasi district caused damage to numerous houses, marking the fifth such incident in the Jammu region over the past three days.
Several houses were affected by flash floods triggered by the cloudburst, with reports of damage to property and belongings, creating panic among residents. Local authorities and rescue teams swiftly responded to the situation, initiating relief and restoration efforts in the affected area. The cloudburst in the Bathoi area of Mahore subdivision resulted in a sudden surge of water and debris inundating residential areas.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, after assessing the situation following the cloudburst, confirmed damage to several houses but thankfully, no casualties were reported. Relief operations were promptly launched to assist the affected families, ensuring their well-being and safety. Traffic near Jamlan bridge was temporarily halted due to rising water levels caused by heavy rainwater and debris flow.
Authorities in Kishtwar district took precautionary measures by ordering the closure of schools for the day, considering the adverse weather conditions and safety concerns for students and staff. The decision to close government and private schools aimed to prevent any risks posed by continuous rainfall and potential hazards like slippery roads and falling stones. Schools in the Kishtwar City area, however, remained open amid the weather alert.
