Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami led a review meeting in New Delhi to evaluate advancements in trade and infrastructure development in Uttarakhand’s border regions, with a specific emphasis on connectivity along the India-Nepal border.
The meeting, held at Uttarakhand Sadan, included discussions with Jayant Singh, Chairman of the Land Ports Authority of India, and other senior officials. CM Dhami assessed the status of the modern land port project in Banbasa, Champawat district, situated on the India-Nepal border, aimed at enhancing cross-border trade and international connectivity.
The under-construction land port is set to be linked to the Asian Highway network, a move expected to significantly enhance regional logistics and mobility. Additionally, deliberations focused on enhancing trade, transportation, and infrastructure in strategic border areas like Dharchula and Jhulaghat in Pithoragarh district, emphasizing the potential for these regions to become active trade routes.
Highlighting the significance of balanced regional development, Dhami stressed the need for infrastructure projects in border regions to prioritize local requirements and public interest. He emphasized that such initiatives would not only enhance connectivity but also boost local products by providing better market access.
The Chief Minister emphasized that strengthening border infrastructure would be pivotal in stimulating the local economy, creating job opportunities, and facilitating easier movement for residents in remote areas. He directed the Land Ports Authority of India to ensure timely and systematic completion of ongoing development projects aimed at benefiting local residents, emphasizing the importance of coordination among agencies to prevent delays and ensure quality standards.
Officials noted the state government’s active efforts to improve trade connections and infrastructure in border regions, recognizing their significance in economic development and strategic connectivity. The review meeting underscored the Uttarakhand government’s commitment to transforming border areas into economic hubs while ensuring sustainable development and enhanced living standards for local communities.
