Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded to criticism in the Legislative Assembly regarding the Mumbai and satellite cities’ development. He defended the Mumbai-Pune ‘Missing Link’ expressway project, facing allegations of corruption and social media backlash after a recent landslide halted traffic for 18 hours. Fadnavis dismissed claims of structural compromise and financial mismanagement, highlighting the project’s engineering excellence and swift emergency response.
Fadnavis accused the opposition of spreading falsehoods, emphasizing that the Mahayuti government overcame obstacles to complete the project. He clarified that the main structure remained intact during the incident, attributing the disruption to mountain debris impacting an outer arch. Emergency crews efficiently cleared the debris, restoring traffic flow within 18 hours, contrary to opposition narratives.
The Chief Minister underscored the project’s significance, featuring India’s tallest cable-stayed bridge and the world’s widest twin tunnels. He addressed online criticism, labeling detractors as “paid trollers,” and asserted the project’s enduring legacy. Fadnavis remained resolute in the face of attacks, emphasizing the project’s lasting impact and his administration’s commitment to Maharashtra’s development.
Fadnavis drew parallels to the historic Konkan Railway and invoked socialist leader Madhu Dandavate’s courage in overcoming challenges. He highlighted emergency relief efforts amid the monsoon crisis, detailing measures to restore essential services in rain-affected areas. Additionally, Fadnavis celebrated a fiscal victory by curbing inflated tenders through the GeM portal, saving significant public funds.
