Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal dismissed a Reuters report alleging that India had turned down a swift trade deal with the US as “completely false” and “baseless.” Goyal emphasized the commitment to a balanced and beneficial agreement during discussions with USTR Jamieson Greer in June. Both sides aim for a deal that supports businesses, farmers, workers, and consumers in both nations.
Goyal affirmed ongoing efforts towards this goal, refuting claims that India is seeking a better deal. Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal confirmed that negotiations for a mutually advantageous trade pact with the US are progressing positively. He highlighted the strengthening trade relations, including energy imports from the US.
The Commerce Minister revealed that the India-US bilateral trade agreement talks are in the final stages, with key issues largely resolved. Despite recent legal and policy developments in the US, Goyal expressed optimism about concluding the trade deal smoothly. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also indicated that the agreement is near completion after extensive negotiations.
