Commerce and Trade Minister Piyush Goyal recently conducted a review meeting with key officers and chief negotiators to evaluate the advancement of India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Goyal emphasized the need to boost exports from India, aiming to unleash the country’s potential in exporting high-quality products. Additionally, discussions were held on enhancing India’s position in global value chains.
During the day, Goyal engaged in talks with a Japanese delegation to bolster bilateral trade and investment relations. He met with Mr. Takayuki Kobayashi, who leads the ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s Policy Research Council in Japan. The discussions focused on reinforcing economic ties between India and Japan, fostering partnerships in sectors like automobiles, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, and advanced manufacturing.
Furthermore, Goyal highlighted the positive impact of the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on trade expansion and business opportunities for Indian enterprises. Notably, the bilateral economic relationship between India and the UAE has flourished across various sectors since the implementation of the agreement. The Commerce Minister emphasized the significant growth in bilateral merchandise trade, surpassing $100 billion, and the steady progress in services trade, facilitating Indian companies’ market access and value creation.
In another virtual interaction, Goyal engaged with UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Peter Kyle, to strengthen bilateral trade and investment connections. The leaders explored avenues to enhance trade relations and fully utilize the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) for mutual benefits.
