Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal highlighted the importance of providing a stable and predictable policy framework in India to attract global value chains. Speaking at the Chintan Shivir event organized by the Department of Commerce, Agrawal noted the significance of these chains in the global electronics industry’s growth. He mentioned the need for different policy approaches for domestic market-focused production compared to export-oriented manufacturing strategies.
The Chintan Shivir aimed to foster constructive dialogues and formulate practical policy recommendations to enhance India’s position as a competitive electronics manufacturing and export hub. The event brought together government officials, industry leaders, and experts to discuss India’s evolving electronics manufacturing landscape and strategies to boost global competitiveness. Presentations during the event outlined sector opportunities in electronics exports, including smartphones, servers, and specialty electronics.
Participants at the event stressed the importance of integrating Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) into global value chains to enhance their role as suppliers to major manufacturers. Discussions also focused on the harmonization of HS Codes and closer coordination with Customs authorities to streamline exports. Special Secretary of the Department of Commerce, Suchindra Misra, highlighted the need for targeted marketing efforts to promote Indian products in key international markets for sustained export growth.
The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade is developing training programs for exporters to enhance their understanding of trade agreements and market access opportunities. Industry feedback is crucial in refining these programs to align with evolving global demand patterns and market dynamics.
