A complaint has been lodged against former Education Minister and ex-Trinamool Congress MLA Partha Chatterjee, along with former Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillor Ghanashree Bagh and associates, for extortion and issuing death threats. The incident, dating back to 2020, was reported by a resident of Thakurpukur Road, who previously refrained from approaching the police due to fear during the Trinamool Congress’s governance.
The complainant accused Partha Chatterjee, Ghanashree Bagh, Tilak Bhattacharya, and Sudip Ghosh of disrupting their family business for about six months, resulting in losses amounting to nearly Rs 40 lakh. Allegations include extortion of Rs 25 lakh by Ghanashree Bagh from the complainant’s husband, with subsequent demands for an additional Rs 1 crore and threats when the demand was unmet. An investigation is ongoing, with potential questioning of Ghanashree Bagh and Tilak Bhattacharya by the police.
The complainant also claimed that her father-in-law, a BJP worker, was falsely implicated in a case, leading to his arrest and subsequent disruptions in the family’s business operations. The family alleged pressure from Chatterjee and the local councillor to remain silent, with claims of being coerced against seeking legal assistance. Investigations have been initiated against Partha Chatterjee, with the police actively looking into the matter.
