The Congress has criticized the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government for allegedly neglecting the 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in state government services. This criticism comes as lawyers representing the state government did not attend a Supreme Court hearing on the matter, leading to a postponement of the next hearing to February 4.
Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath condemned the absence of state government lawyers at the Supreme Court, calling it a deliberate move by the BJP to weaken their case. Nath highlighted a pattern of evasion by the BJP government in addressing the OBC reservation issue, citing instances where lawyers either failed to appear in court or sought adjournments.
Nath, who had sanctioned the 27 per cent reservation for OBC candidates during his tenure, accused the BJP government of continuously obstructing the implementation of this law despite no legal stay. State Congress President Jitu Patwari also criticized the BJP, alleging that public funds were used to prevent OBC reservation and that the current government is reluctant to enforce the quota.
