AICC General Secretary and MP K.C. Venugopal expressed concerns about the Sabarimala gold theft investigation, warning against scapegoating the tantric to protect a minister. The Congress and BJP have called for scrutiny of senior CPI(M) legislator Kadakampally Surendran’s role in the case. The Kerala High Court-appointed SIT recently arrested the temple’s ‘tantri,’ Kantarar Rajeevar, bringing the total arrests to 12.
Venugopal emphasized the need for a thorough investigation that holds all involved parties accountable, regardless of their positions or political affiliations. He criticized the State government for allegedly interfering with the SIT’s work and stressed the importance of upholding the law equally for everyone. While refraining from commenting on allegations against the ‘tantri,’ Venugopal urged authorities not to make one person a scapegoat while letting the real culprits escape justice.
Accusing the Chief Minister of protecting the thieves and now preaching against corruption, Venugopal questioned the BJP’s delayed response to the case. Meanwhile, the SIT team visited the ‘tantri’s’ home for an inspection, and the ‘tantri’ was moved to the hospital due to health issues during the investigation.
