The Congress and Communist Party of India-Marxist praised Tamil Nadu’s newly sworn-in Chief Minister, C. Joseph Vijay, for his decision to provide 200 units of free electricity. Vijay, from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), assumed office after his party won 108 seats in the state assembly elections.
Support from Congress, CPI-M, CPI, IUML, and VCK helped Vijay’s party secure a majority to form the government in Tamil Nadu. Congress MP Imran Masood emphasized the importance of fulfilling promises made to the people, urging Vijay to honor commitments from his manifesto.
Congress leader Anand Srinivasan mentioned that they have already started fulfilling the promises made by TVK to the people of Tamil Nadu. The announcement of providing 200 units of free electricity by the new Chief Minister is seen as a significant step towards fulfilling electoral promises.
State CPI-M Secretary P. Shanmugam welcomed the decision, stating that it fulfills a crucial promise from TVK’s election manifesto. Families consuming up to 500 units of electricity will receive 200 units free, while those using more than 500 units will continue to benefit from 100 units of free electricity.
The swearing-in ceremony also saw the appointment of Ministers N. Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, K.G. Arunraj, K.A. Sengottaiyan, P. Venkataramanan, R. Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, T.K. Prabhu, and S. Keerthan in the new Cabinet. This event marked a significant political shift in Tamil Nadu, moving away from the traditional Dravidian parties’ long-standing dominance under Vijay’s leadership.
