Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Harshvardhan Sapkal criticized the ruling MahaYuti alliance, alleging a deliberate attempt to change Maharashtra’s progressive ethos into a “cow belt.” Speaking on Maharashtra Day and Labour Day, Sapkal urged unity against efforts to disrupt the state’s culture. He highlighted the influence of historical figures like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shahu, Phule, and Ambedkar on Maharashtra’s heritage.
Sapkal expressed concern over threats to Maharashtra’s identity, citing actions like delimitation that could diminish the state’s political importance nationally. He accused the government of creating divisions among castes and religions to divert attention from critical issues. Sapkal also criticized the government’s performance in areas like law enforcement, administration, women’s safety, drought management, and anti-corruption efforts.
Emphasizing the strength of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, Sapkal reiterated the importance of unity and cooperation. He highlighted the Congress party’s readiness to lead based on its numerical support and the recognition of its significance within the state. Sapkal called for genuine introspection and action from the government to address the existing gaps and challenges.
