Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh praised students for uncovering issues related to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) paper-evaluation contract. He demanded the resignation of Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, following the transfer of CBSE chairman Rahul Singh and secretary Himanshu Gupta by the Centre. Ramesh emphasized the need for accountability in the wake of irregularities surrounding the CBSE’s On Screen Marking (OSM) system.
Whistleblower student Sarthak Sidhant appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports, chaired by Congress MP Digvijaya Singh. Ramesh highlighted the students’ role in exposing the scandal online and presenting their findings to the committee. He criticized the government for attempting to shift blame onto bureaucrats rather than addressing the systemic issues within the education ecosystem.
The controversy surrounding the CBSE’s examination processes has sparked a political debate, particularly after allegations of irregularities in the NEET examinations and the digital evaluation system. Students like Vedant Shrivastava raised concerns about discrepancies in marks and evaluation transparency. The incident involving the sharing of incorrect answer sheets further fueled doubts about the integrity of the evaluation process.
