Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, expressed concern over the deletion of a significant portion of his speech during a recent session. He emphasized the importance of freedom of expression for Members of Parliament as granted under the Constitution.
Kharge urged the Rajya Sabha Chairman to reconsider the omitted sections and include them back into the records. He warned that if his request is not addressed, he would make the removed parts public.
The veteran Congress leader highlighted that the deleted segments of his speech mainly focused on factual observations about Parliamentary operations and critiques of certain government policies. He defended his right to criticize policies that impact the public negatively, stating that his remarks were relevant to the discussion at hand.
Referring to his extensive experience in Parliament, Kharge asserted that his comments were in line with parliamentary decorum and did not contain any inappropriate language. He clarified that the removed portions did not violate any rules or contain derogatory remarks.
